Scottish song writer Sheila Easson brought an idea to us at Mercyland. Irish bluesman KJ McEvoy and Sammy sat with Sheila in the old pump room of French’s Bar in Gorey and laughed their way through a song about mistakes we all make from time to time.

Lyrics

As best I recall if I’m not mistaken
Fat tears and fine whiskey make a bad combination
They’ll blur the hard edges
Make the blues slip away
But they’ll return sharper to cut you next day
Now you know
You’ve been told
They’ll return sharper to cut you next day

Well it just takes a trigger to fire off a memory
And the gloomy clouds come to the surface again
Why do some people’s memories
Make moments of sunshine
While mine just make ominous skies full of rain
Now you know
You’ve been told
Mine just make ominous skies full of rain

When I take to the bottle to shake off my maladies
It’s a sad situation that sinks me again
When I wake the next morning
The storm clouds come gathering
I’m tempted to start it all over again
Now you know, you’ve been told
I’m tempted to start it all over again

So I’m done with the drinking
Im done with self pity
I’m done with the demons that tempt me to fall
I remember my mother
When she passed out her wisdom
She said that dutch courage was no courage at all
Now you know
You’ve been told
She said that dutch courage was no courage at all.
