Another co-write at Mercyland Ireland. Jon Hirst brought the idea of reflecting on life as we get older. Sammy and Gabe Osiier joined him, and the song came together as they each reflected on how the years have flown and what they teach us.
Lyrics
When your heroes become zeroes and those villains seem to prosper
When does it start to dawn on you the price that thing can cost you
Ever since I was a youngster I gazed up at their faces
But now I look them in the eye and I would not change places
So it goes as you grow old, so it goes as you grow old
Well I put them up on pedestals but then I saw them tumble
Those ivory towers stretched up so high ’til they began to crumble
So will I make the easy choice and never taste what could be
As I watch what I built up crush my soul with debris
So it goes as you grow old, so it goes as you grow old
